Kristen Dalton
at the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant

Kristen Dalton, Miss USA 2009 is honored to represent the United States in the 58th Annual Miss Universe pageant. Kristen believes that the current controversy surrounding Miss California’s answer regarding gay marriage will give the Miss Universe Organization a publicity boost. She told E!’s Daily 10, “I really think that it's great for the Miss Universe Organization, because it's given us a lot of publicity. And there's gonna be a lot of people watching this Miss USA pageant next year."

The 58th Annual Miss Universe Competition will air live on Sunday, August 23rd. The Miss Universe pageant will be held at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The event will take place at Atlantis, Paradise Island resort and will air live on NBC and Telemundo.

Paula M. Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization, said the following regarding their choice of venue for the 2009 Miss Universe pageant:

"Paradise. There is no better name for the beauty of the Bahamas and this island. The worldwide telecast will highlight the warmth, beauty and hospitality of the Islands of the Bahamas as well as the world renowned Atlantis resort. We have had a wonderful working relationship with the Bahamas and Atlantis for many years and I'm very excited this global event will take that partnership to a whole new level."

In addition, the Bahamas' Minister of Tourism & Aviation, Senator Hon. Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace commented on his excitement to host the Miss Universe pageant in August of 2009 by saying:

"The people of The Bahamas are very proud and excited at the opportunity to host some of the most beautiful people in the universe in some of the most beautiful islands in the universe. This feels like the perfect match. We look forward to showcasing the hospitality of our people, the clarity of our waters, the vibrancy of our music, dance, food and spirit."

Kristen Dalton will represent the United States as Miss USA 2009 at this pageant. Kristen will be competing against beautiful women representing more than 80 countries worldwide.

Former Miss USA representatives have had less than good luck in the recent Miss Universe Pageants past. Both Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart and her predecessor, Rachel Smith, slipped and fell on stage during the evening gown competitions. We hope Kristen Dalton, Miss USA 2009 does not follow in her predecessors footsteps, and we wish her the best of luck at the competition in August.

As in the Miss USA pageant, Miss Universe contestants will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and interview. The winner of the Miss Universe pageant will be crowned by Miss Universe 2008, the Venezuelan native, Dayana Mendoza. Over the past year as Miss Universe, Dayana has traveled the world as an advocate for HIV/AIDS education, research, and legislation. Miss USA 2009, Kristen Dalton will be honored to follow Dayana Mendoza’s example if she is selected at Miss Universe 2009.
